Hawk and Horse Vineyards

"God makes wine. Only the ungrateful or the purblind can fail to see that sugar in the grape
and yeast on the skins is a divine idea, not a human one."
-Father Roger Capon, The Supper of the Lamb

Terrior

Situated at elevations of between 1,800 to 2,200 feet on sloping hillside terrain the vineyard is composed of red rocky volcanic soils studded with “Lake County Diamonds”. The growing season, beginning in early February and ending between late September to early October, is marked by warm, bright sunny days and cool evenings. Fed by natural springs and some of the cleanest air in the nation, the microclimate of Hawk and Horse Vineyards has a natural growing environment perfectly suited to producing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinction. Our Biodynamic and Organic farming practices work in harmony with these elements of terroir: topography, soil and climate. The holistic combination of these factors give this site its own unique terroir which is reflected in the grapes and wine produced from this small plot. We seek to produce wine and wine grapes distinctive in style characteristics which cannot be precisely duplicated elsewhere.
